The 29th Asian Cycling Championship and the 16th Asian Junior Cycling Championship 2009

Some 659 athletes from 27 different countries will take part in an indoor and outdoor Asian Cycling championship from August 14 to 20, 2009 at the indoor velodrome of the Tenggarong Seberang stadium in Kutai Kartengara, and on the Samarinda-Tenggarong road in East Kalimantan.
Samarinda, Aug 5 (Antara/FINROLL News)- Some 659 athletes from 27 different countries will take part in an indoor and outdoor Asian Cycling championship from August 14 to 20, 2009 at the indoor velodrome of the Tenggarong Seberang stadium in Kutai Kartengara, and on the Samarinda-Tenggarong road in East Kalimantan.

"The participants had been arriving in the past two days," Bambang Arwanto, chairman of the regency board of the All Indonesia Sport Associations (Pengkab ISSI) ukar said on Wednesday.

He said those who already had arrived included the 58-member Indonesian team, 58-member Iranian team plus four Japanese trainers from the Continental Cycling Center (CCC)in Shuzenji.

"Today the participants from the United Arab Emirates are scheduled to arrive in Indonesia, and on August 8 the participants from Kazakhstan and Libya, and on August 10 the participants from China," Bambang said.

He also said that some of the countries which had confirmed participation include Japan, United Arab Emirates, Iran, Hong Kong, Lebanon, China Taipei, China, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Singapore, South Korea, Bahrain, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, India, Malaysia, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, and some others.

The branches which will be competed include the 500 meters Time Trial, 200 meters Time Trial Sprint, and Team Pursuit.

He said Minister of Education and Sports Adhyaksa Dault is scheduled to officially open the championship, while the sports ministers from several countries said they also planned to watch the championship in Tenggarong.

Eight hundred guests had been invited to attend the opening ceremony, including East Kalimantan Governor Awang Faroek Ishak, and a welcoming party will be held on August 13.

SAMARINDA - Sebanyak 27 negara akan ikut ambil bagian pada Kejuaraan Balap Sepeda tingkat Asia (Asian Cycling Championship 2009), 14-20 Agustus di Samarinda dan Tenggarong. Sabtu (8/8) ini enam negara peserta sudah tiba di Samarinda.

Direktur Pertandingan Asian Cycling Championship Sofian Rizau, Sabtu (6/8) mengatakan, para peserta datang lebih awal untuk melakukan uji coba lintasan dan mengikuti program Shuzenji (pelatihan) dengan instruktur pelatih dari Jepang . "Mereka datang lebih dulu untuk coba lintasan dan ikut Shuzenji," kata Sofian.

Ia menyebutkan enam negara yang sudah hadir di antaranya tim Indonesia berjumlah 30 orang, Jepang tiga orang, Malaysia sembilan orang, Thailand tiga orang, Uni Emirat Arab (UEA) 10 orang dan Iran 31 orang. "Mereka yang sudah tiba terdiri dari atlet, pelatih dan official tim. Dan mereka juga belum full team karena masih ada beberapa atlet yang akan menyusul," kata Sofian.

Berdasarkan data registrasi, kata Sofian, sebanyak 659 atlet berasal dari 27 negara menjadi peserta pada kejuaraan ini. Namun, lanjutnya, dari informasi saat ini ada tiga negara yaitu Irak, Mongolia dan Afganistan masih bermasalah dalam pengurusan visa sehingga belum bisa memastikan diri ikut atau tidak. Adapun jumlah nomor yang dipertandingkan ada 46 nomor untuk senior dan junior.

Diprediksi gelombang kedatangan peserta bakal terjadi sekitar H-5. Sofian memperkirakan para peserta membutuhkan waktu untuk uji coba lintasan sekaligus adaptasi sebelum pertandingan dimulai. "Kami membuka kesempatan uji lintasan mulai Sabtu (8/8). Dan untuk jadwal pertandingan dimulai Kamis (13/8), yaitu pelaksanaan technical meeting dan acara seremoni yang rencananya dilaksanakan di Gedung Tinju Tenggarong," ujar Sofian.
